If you’re a manufacturer of glamping pods, or you’re thinking of building them, this is the blog post I urge you to read all the way through. It could be the answer to your problems.
Building a glamping pod, shepherd hut or any other form of glamping accommodation isn’t easy. In fact, it can be bloody difficult. Perhaps the trickiest and most time-consuming stage of the process is constructing a frame that’s nicely arched, flawlessly symmetrical and of a high enough quality to support the whole structure. Not only is it difficult to curve the arches perfectly and ensure that all the angles slot together, the amount of cutting and waste involved is, to put it bluntly, a pain in the arse.
That’s where we step in and do the heavy lifting for you.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a hobbyist who just wants to focus on the fun parts of building a pod, or a glamping pod business owner that needs to speed up production to meet demand - our CNC-cut timber frames and arches are here to help you. Read on to find out more about our frames and why you should consider using them.
Our basic glamping pod frame, perfect for the standard pod design.
How do our frames speed up your rate of production?
This one’s easy. Without CNC capability, it takes ages to build frames and arches. Not only do you have to spend time calculating curves, angles and the like, you’ll almost certainly be inconsistent and imprecise without the aid of computer control.
There’s nothing more frustrating than having to rip up your creation and start over because your joints are misaligned by a few millimetres.
With us, all you have to do is provide your specifications and our CNC machine will take care of the rest. Instead of spending hour upon hour building your frames, you can focus your efforts on the things that will actually generate revenue for your business, such as making your pod exteriors look nicer than your competitors’.
With our frames, you’ll drastically reduce the amount of time you spend building your pods, meaning you’re in a better position to meet rising demand for glamping accommodation.
Without having to invest in additional staff or machinery, you can make more pods in less time, creating room for more customers and more income.
We don’t just make frames for traditional glamping pods. We also cater for domes, shepherd huts and all kinds of unusual structures!
How do our frames reduce your costs?
Let’s get this straight. We believe passionately in the quality of our frames, so we’re not giving them away for a knock-off price. However, there’s a very good possibility that using our services will actually lower your production costs, particularly if you’re new to the pod-making game.
Here’s what Ste, our head designer, said about the time and costs associated with making your own frames:
So, imagine making a frame in the traditional way. You need a skilled joiner, or two. They need to measure, cut, measure, cut. Lots of measuring, lots of cutting, lots of waste wood - piles and piles of wasted wood, sawdust. Mistakes are made, you mis measure. You need tools, power tools, work benches ... it takes ages.
So, not only do your costs rise because of the time you spend building the frames, you also have to spend money on materials, tools and labour. Ste contrasts that with using our frames:
‘You can have a rack in your workshop with a stack of our frames on there. Whenever you need a frame making, you can get a couple of casual workers to bang one up - no major tools, no cutting, no measuring, always perfect, no mistakes, no waste wood, strong as fuck.’
How are our frames designed, built and delivered?
Our expert team, who possess years of design and engineering experience, talk to you over the phone or in person and find out what you want from your glamping structure. They then sketch a frame design, bring it to you and, where necessary, revise it until you’re happy. It’s completely tailored to your needs.
Once the final design has been approved, we begin the building process. Our frames are crafted from WISA-Spruce plywood, a material renowned for its structural quality and sustainability.
We use state-of-the-art CNC technology to cut the plywood with an incredible degree of precision. Rest assured, our arches are perfectly symmetrical, and every joint and angle slots together nicely.
We’ll take care of delivery. If you’re a first-time customer, Ste always tries to deliver your order personally, accompanied by Made Of Bits’ most important team member, Rocky the boxer dog!
Once delivered to your workshop, our frames are incredibly easier to put together. In the unlikely event of you running into problems, just give us a call and we’ll help you out.
Update: We've recently added a range of frame kits for standard pod models, meaning you might not even have to call us! Visit the shop to see our range of kits.
Meet Rocky, the most important member of our team.
What else can we do for you?
Made Of Bits does more than just supply glamping pod frames. We’ve used our design and engineering expertise to work with some of the biggest glamping pod manufacturers in the industry on their new designs, and even utilised our maths skills to perform load analysis calculations.
Outside of helping with the construction of glamping pods, we can provide 3D videos and rendering to help you market your structures to glamping sites. Below is a draft video introduction we’ve been working on for one of our clients, and it can be narrated, set to music, etc, as required.
